Dear John (1988)

Judd Hirsch stars as John Lacey, a laid-back teacher at Drake Prep whose life is upended when his wife, Wendy, leaves him—via a Dear John letter. She takes everything in the divorce, including custody of their son, forcing John into a small Queens apartment. He finds solace at the One-2-One Club, a support group for the lonely, led by Louise, a sex-obsessed Brit. The quirky members include sweet divorcée Kate, cocky ladies’ man Kirk, shy tollbooth collector Ralph, feisty senior Bonnie, and her quiet boyfriend Tom.
