The Big Election in Gırgıriye (1984)

In the historic Sulukule district of Rome, the vibrant community—led by matriarch Sabahat, her niece Güllü, and rival chieftain hopefuls Uncle Bekir and family friend Bayram—holds its first democratic election for "çeribaşı," sparking drunken fights and police raids. Desperate for cash, Sabahat forces Güllü to perform at drug-smuggler Tayfur’s nightclub. A suitcase mix-up uncovers hidden money, saving Bayram from suicide and flipping the whole neighborhood’s luck.
