Born on April 5, 1928, Haldun Dormen is a celebrated Turkish actor and director whose career spans theater, film, and television. Of Turkish Cypriot heritage, he was raised in Şişli after his family relocated there before his first birthday. His father, Sait Ömer Bey, was a Cypriot businessman, while his mother, Nimet Rüştü Hanım, was the daughter of an Istanbul pasha. Dormen first discovered his passion for acting during junior high at Galatasaray High School, where he performed in a play called *Demirbank*. He later graduated from Robert College.

Dormen pursued theater education in the United States, earning a master’s degree from Yale University. He spent two years honing his craft as both an actor and director in American theaters, including four performances at the Pasadena Playhouse in Hollywood. Upon returning to Istanbul, he joined the Küçük Sahne stage under the guidance of Muhsin Ertuğrul, making his Turkish debut in the play *Cinayet Var*.

Throughout his career, Dormen has been a pioneering figure in Turkish theater, directing and acting in numerous acclaimed productions. He has also appeared in movies and TV series, earning recognition for his versatility. Notable achievements include his contributions to modern Turkish drama and his role in shaping the country’s theatrical landscape. Despite a childhood accident at age eight that injured his left foot, Dormen’s resilience and talent have made him a lasting icon in the arts.
