Shelby Stanga, widely recognized as the "Swamp Man," is a notable American television personality and swamp logger whose unique lifestyle and career have captured the attention of viewers across the nation. His expertise lies in retrieving ancient sinker logs from the Bedico Swamp in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. These logs, remnants of cypress trees cut down between 1850 and 1944, have been submerged for over a century, absorbing minerals that give them striking hues of yellow, red, blue, green, purple, and brown. Stanga sells these prized logs to furniture-makers, including well-known buyers like Keith Dufour from Northshore, who appreciate their durability and visual appeal.

Stanga's logging practices are both physically demanding and hazardous. Equipped with 108 pounds of lead and steel-toed boots, he often dives into the swamp, navigating 18-20 feet of murky water to unearth logs buried beneath 6-8 feet of mud. The dangers include limited visibility, submerged obstacles, and encounters with local wildlife such as snakes and snapping turtles. His relentless spirit and dedication to his craft have established him as a figure of legend in the logging community.

Stanga gained fame through his appearances on the History Channel's reality series, Ax Men, which showcased him alongside other logging companies. His charismatic personality led to the spin-off, The Legend of Shelby the Swamp Man, which premiered on August 6, 2013, highlighting his life beyond logging, including quirky adventures and personal anecdotes. In 2018, he further expanded his television repertoire with Return of Shelby the Swamp Man.

Despite his television success, Stanga maintains a down-to-earth lifestyle, residing with his wife, Donna, on 3.5 acres near the Tangipahoa River. He prefers the simplicity of life by the river, often sleeping in a hammock rather than indulging in luxury. Logging continues to be his primary source of income, reflecting his commitment to his roots
